BRIEF HISTORY OF SHRI Dr. V. SUNDAR NAIDU
Dr. V. Sundar Naidu was born on 1-7-1936 in a respectable Hindu Agricultural family in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh.  He is a Veterinary Graduate of Bombay Veterinary University.  He is literally the doyen of poultry industry in Rayalaseema and Northern parts of Tamilnadu.  Seized with a burning desire to improve the plight of the rural community, he has shown livelihood to a vast number of educated and uneducated unemployed youth and poor farmers and has, to a great extent, changed the socio-economic conditions of the rural masses by involving them in poultry farming.  In 1967, when poultry farming was unknown in these areas, he had embarked on a mission of educating the farmers on the benefits of poultry farming and imparted the knowledge required in this activity to the educated and frustrated youth and has succeeded in convincing them to take up poultry farming.  He also helped many in obtaining bank loans and made them aware of the Govt. Subsidy Claims.  He has conducted many technical meetings for the benefit of farmers and represented their genuine grievances to the Govt. for redressal.
He started his pioneering commercial poultry farm Sri Venkateswara Poultry Farm in 1967 after resigning from Government. Service.  In those early days no farmer was indulging in poultry farming.  Only on his persistent cajoling did a small number of farmers ventured into poultry farming. They were entirely dependent on chicks supplied from far-flung places like Delhi, Pune and Hyderabad.  Those chicks were inferior in quality due to dehydration, stress and suffocation in transit.  The rate of mortality in transit was also high.  Added to these, the farmers had to wait for months together to get their supplies even after depositing the entire cost on placing the order.  The farmers did not have any access to technical aid in times of spread of diseases.  These inhibiting factors were dampening the spirits of the poultry farmers.
Appalled at this state of affairs and with a fierce determination to improve the local poultry scenario, he ventured to start Balaji Hatcheries in 19721973, primarily committed to the twin aims of supplying quality and healthy layer chicks to farmers and to render proper technical assistance by establishing technical service centers at strategic places in Rayalaseema, Nellore and North Tamilnadu.  These service centers are manned by competent Veterinary Doctors and Trained technical personnel.  The staff is motivated to call on each farm in their areas regularly and to guide the farmers in scientific rearing of flocks. By doing so he has done a yeoman service to the farming community in removing the fears and apprehensions of the farmers.  The name of Balaji Hatcheries has become synonymous with timely professional technical help.  The farmers developed confidence and started to take up poultry farming more vigorously.  He also set up fully equipped laboratories at Chittoor and Nellore for diagnosis of diseases and analyses of feed and water.  These have been effective in prevention and control of diseases.  He has also started Balaji Poultry Marketing Services to assist the farmers in selling of eggs, lifting of birds and supply of feed at reasonable prices.  He has also started M/s V.S.N. Hatcheries Private. Limited., in 1987-1988 to cater to the needs of the rapidly growing broiler market.  With a clear vision of future needs he had promoted two more Companies in 1992 viz V.S.N. Breeding Farms Private. Limited., and Balaji Livestock and Poultry Breeders Private. Limited., to cater to the anticipated demand for Broiler and Layer Chicks. These ventures have brought about a profound change in the economic scenario of the rural areas of this region, which were in the grip of ever-prevailing drought conditions.  The rural community now has a viable and dependable alternative in poultry farming to sustain its economic development.
Though he had to face innumerable obstacles and hardships, he has surmounted all these with infinite patience and unflinching zeal and today all these ventures have flourished and brought prosperity to farmers in their wake.
He was closely associated with Padmasri Dr. B.V. Rao the Pioneer of poultry in India.  He was responsible for popularizing the Babcock breed in Rayalaseema, Nellore and Northern parts of Tamilnadu.  In the early days the traders had a strangle hold on the egg products and prices.  He travelled extensively along with Dr. B.V. Rao, through out the length and breadth of the country with the slogan My egg  My life  My Price and was instrumental in the birth of National Egg Co-Ordination Committee which is the regulatory body fixing the egg prices everyday through out the country.  He was also involved in founding Andhra Pradesh Poultry Federation which takes up the legitimate demands of the farmers with the state government for redressal.
He was also a Board Member on the executive committee of Acharya N.G.Ranga Agricultural University.  He has developed growing of Maize in the Rayalaseema Region.  He has also initiated steps for adoption of sprinkler and drip irrigation to augment the scarce water.  He is also the Chairman Chittoor Town Development Committee and has taken up many useful works like deepening of tank, beautifying and widening of the tank bund and fencing 6.5km long boundary of precious forest by spending huge money of is own.  He has borne the cost of building the office of Mandal Development Officer at Thavanampalle and also was instrumental in laying a 1km long black top road from T.Puttur to Kampalapalle.
He is simple and docile by nature.  He is always ready to help the needy.  His gentle behavior has endeared himself to one and all.  Though tied up with a tight schedule, he manages to spare time to hear the grievances of even the smallest farmers.  He has undergone extensive training at Ithaca and Arkansas in U.S.A.  He also attended the Worlds Poultry Science Conference at Amsterdam in Netherlands during 1993.  He holds the following positions by virtue of his efficiency.
