Komaram Bheem was born on October 22, 1901 at Sankepalli village in Asifabad Mandal, Adilabad District, Telangana State to Komaram Chinnu and Sombaru
When Komaram Bheem was 15 years old, his father Komaram Chinnu was killed in an attack by forest officials. After the death of his father, Komaram Bheem’s family migrated to Sardapur in Karimera region. When a zamindar named Siddiqui encroached on the land cultivated by Bhim’s family in that area, Bhim could not contain his anger and killed him and left for Assam. After spending 5 years working in coffee and tea plantations there, Bhim returned to Sardapur. The Nizam Nawab led the tribals in a movement against the duty imposed on the cattle drivers. The Nizam continued the guerilla struggle against the Nawab centered around Asifabad and the Jodeghat mounds. Komuram Suru also participated in the movement as Bhim’s right-hand man. Vedmaramu was also a companion of Bvheim. Both of them were tribal leaders who fought against the then Nizam’s rule.
Komaram Bheem, who rang Ranbheri from 1928 to 1940, was a fighter who became a lion’s dream in the hearts of the Niizam government, denouncing the right to forest as a part of social justice for the adivasi people who live in harmony with nature.
Death of Komaram Bhima Vira
On 27 October 1940, Nizam’s army besieged Bhim’s camp at Komaram in the forests of Jodeghat and killed Bhim on the information given by a traitor named Kurdu Patel. Komaram Kodama roared like a lion on Nizam’s army and forest personnel. Acting on information from a traitor named Kurdu Patel, Komaram’s settlements were surrounded by the army at midnight and Komaram Bheem died a heroic death in the forests of Godeghat, on the full moon day of Asviyuja Sudda, which is considered sacred by the tribals. Since then, celebrating Komaram Bheem Varthanti on that tithi day continues to be a tradition among the tribals.
